Śāstra is essential in our path because it teaches us who we are, who is God, what is our relationship with Him, what is our objective and how to achieve it.
Śāstra comes from Kṛṣṇa Himself Who is devoid of the four imperfections of humanity (bodily identification, tendency to commit errors, the tendency to cheat and imperfect senses), being situated above the three material modes. Only these books are able to guide us on the spiritual path and free us from our material misconceptions.
When our Paramgurudeva came to Vṛndāvana, He saw that many Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava texts were on the point of extinction and the śāstric culture, established in Vṛndāvana by Śrī Caitanya and the Gosvāmīs, had almost disappeared. Being a highly learned person in śāstra, he worked relentlessly to re-establish this culture, and Mahārājjī follows his example.
Having set up his own printing press called Śrī Gadādhara-Gaurahari Press, Mahārājjī protects the scriptures from extinction through compiling, editing and translating them, as well as commenting upon them to preserve their original messages. Of course, the books are also printed and distributed. Apart from that he has built the Śrī Gaura Gadādhara Granthāgaram library, which houses now more than 10,000 books, among them many rare manuscripts.
Mahārājjī's efforts to bring closer the true meaning of the śāstra to those without the knowledge of Sanskrit through his Hindi and Bengali translations are being multiplied by his disciples who are translating his books into a range of other languages.
In this place you can consult the list of all the books that have been published under Śrī Gadādhara-Gaurahari Press and are available from the āśram. The section Books contains their detailed bibliographical information. A couple of them have been reviewed here.
